2021.12.08 04:01 YouKnowGeorge So i signed up to a streaming service through a free VPN, should i be worried?

I absentmindedly signed up with my free VPN (Browsec) turned on. Provided my debit card details to the streaming service... wondered if it is possible for my bank account details to be intercepted or harvested?
Probably should consider using a well known VPN provider next time.
fyi, the streaming service is a legitimate major company, presumably with adequate security... i hope O_O

2021.12.08 04:01 Gullake Just played the Arrival DLC for the first time in years

I played the arrival DLC a grand total of 1 time prior to today and boy do I regret it. I remember it was the first DLC I bought when I was like 14 and was just discovering the Mass Effect games. Now obviously older, I went back through and was playing it just because I needed some extra renegade points.
I remember the DLC being horrible and boring and just all around not worth the time, so I skipped it every single time I played the original trilogy. I just finished it and it was a little out-of-place gameplay-wise because it felt more like a puzzle than an actual mission, and I spent the whole time wondering why I didn't buy a better gun than the Carnifex before I got there.
Now I'm sitting here wondering why this wasn't just a default mission. Playing this DLC made me realize that without it I had just assumed and accepted 3 things that don't make any sense.

  1. Ashley turned Shepard in as the one behind collector attacks and that's why he was grounded, lack of refuting evidence other than "trust me bro"
  2. The Reapers came out of the Mass Relays somehow. Yes I mean they woke up and just came out of the relays)
  3. The Batarians were all mad at Shepard for killing Balak
Those were real things I genuinely thought until I played this DLC for a second time. I have played through these games with DOZENS of Shepards that never gave a shit about Hackett's friend. But I want to know, what other DLC makes way more sense as just a standard mission? What other plotholes show up if you take a DLC out of the eqution?

2021.12.08 04:01 autotldr 'Pharma Bro' firm reaches $40M settlement in gouging case | AP News

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 34%. (I'm a bot)

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - A company once owned by "Pharma Bro" Martin Shkreli will pay up to $40 million to settle allegations that it jacked up the price of a life-saving medication by roughly 4 ,000% after obtaining exclusive rights to the drug, the Federal Trade Commission announced Tuesday.
The FTC said Vyera Pharmaceuticals LLC and its parent company, Phoenixus AG, agreed to settle allegations that it gouged buyers and monopolized sales of Daraprim, which is used to treat toxoplasmosis, an infection that can be deadly for people with HIV or other immune-system problems and can cause serious problems for children born to women infected while pregnant.
Vyera raised the price of the decades-old drug from $17.50 to $750 per pill after obtaining exclusive rights to it in 2015."Should be a very handsome investment for all of us," Shkreli put it in an email to a contact at the time.
The lawsuit alleged that Vyera hiked the price of Daraprim and illegally created "a web of anticompetitive restrictions" to prevent other companies from creating cheaper generic versions by, among other things, blocking their access to a key ingredient for the medication and to data the companies would want to evaluate the drug's market potential.
The settlement filed Tuesday requires Vyera and Phoenixus to provide up to $40 million in relief over 10 years to consumers who allegedly were fleeced by their actions and requires them to make Daraprim available to any potential generic competitor at the cost of producing the drug.
Former Vyera CEO Kevin Mulleady agreed to pay $250,000 if he violates the settlement, which in general bars him from "Working for, consulting for, or controlling a pharmaceutical company" for seven years, according to an FTC statement.

2021.12.08 04:01 cookiemonstrosity54 My aunt is trying to kill herself

My elderly aunt is currently in the Philippines and has debilitating arthritis and doesn’t manage her diabetes. According to her doctor in the U.S. she has stage 4 renal failure. She hates her life and is always in agonizing pain from her arthritis. This past week we found out she hasn’t been eating, has sores on her body and has been hallucinating. She has been turning down offers to go to the hospital and would get mad at my other aunt who would try to get her to go see a doctor. I finally had to call her and tell her to go see a doctor for me and my sisters and she finally agreed. She’s been in the hospital for the past 2 days and has been raising hell with the staff. No one wants to go in her room because she’s so mean and derogatory. The hospitals in the Philippines are like something out of the 1960’s. Rarely anything is modern and they don’t have the same access to quality health care as the US. I’m worried for my aunt but I’m also just trying to brace myself for the worst.
